I have the 7 inch single on the EMI label (my memory says they were sacked by EMI after using naughty words on TV and switched to Virgin) which i am told is worth something.

PIL’s Paris in the Spring was the first “grown up” record I bought. The girl at the counter at HMV smirked when I handed it over.
Listening to NMTB gave me a fight or flight sensation. I could feel every pore in my skin sticking out.
Oddly enough although I love punk, I’ve never got that feeling from another punk band.

Zeb.
Exactly what i said earlier mate, they could play, make no mistake. And Lydon is a great example of something i said on the 'singers' thread. You dont need to be a good singer to be a great vocalist.

steve says it about himself but almost every guitarist has on to interview says he was a bit inspiration. he had a unique sound

Depsite all the shite that Malcolm McLaren spouted about them not being able to play they really could. Steve Jones played all the guitar and bass parts on NMTB and it shows. The rhythm section is bang on. The production is bloody good too with layered rhythm guitar tracks to make that fat sound.

The opening bars of AITUK always make the hairs on my neck stand up, powerful riff.

I was 13 when that album came out (and Damned Damned Damned) and those changed my life. The latter was good but sheer venom leaping out of the vinyl is still stunning. You could tell he meant every fucking word. Caught PiL a couple of times shortly after and he was a huge stage presence. That glare at the audience....

I'll have a look mike.
Agree about Mclaren, they had the potential to be a very good rock band but like you say,may have been totally apt to only make 1 album then chuck it in.
Lydon's autobiography, no dogs,no blacks no irish is a good read.

The Pistols had some catchy tunes for sure. Born in 1970 I was too young.at the time but seem to recall having watched the Grundy interview live and even.at my young age realising this isn't normal.
I heard a lot of PIL in the house from older sister. Jah Wobble was great on the bass.
All about the Clash for me though.

they were a brilliant band but held back by that ego maniac cunt mclaren but maybe it was only meant to last for one album?
1bill, I've been listening/watching steve jones interviews with various musicians for years. they're something worth watching in these depressing times and always light hearted, look up jonesey's jukebox and there's loads to have a look at

Not that song in general but Punk as a whole did. Was only around 11/12 years old at the time but we had a music teacher at school who let us bring in records if we behaved for most of the lesson they'd get played at the end. The only records played were Punk singles that were borrowed from older brothers and sisters.
Paper round money used to be spent on the latest singles and it was all I would listen to for years after.
Genuinely think that Punk music changed my attitude to pretty much everything in life ever since.

Obviously never heard it when it came out (was born about a decade after) but first heard it when I was about 11 and had a similar impact.
